What can you possibly put in there that won't feel like an afterthought? We asked a handful of Buy Side staffers and experts, from interior designers to professional chefs, to share their favorite (fail-safe) little gifts. Make sure to check shipping times and note where in-store pickup is available, too.

"It fits all of the essentials and comes in a bunch of cool colors," she says. And it comes with a feel-good factor: The company says a portion of proceeds from each item sold is donated to Water Mission, an organization that helps provide sustainable water systems around the world.

This all-in-one tool will come in handy for that friend who redecorates every few months—or days—because it's the easiest way to hang pictures straight and evenly spaced, says Erin Gates, Wellesley, Mass.-based designer and founder of Erin Gates Design. Then all they need to do is press gently through the picture to make a mark on the wall and secure the fastener in place.

Just because something is stocking-size doesn't mean it can't be a bit of a splurge—especially if it's custom and top-quality, like these 4-inch claw clips. Made of biodegradable acetate and personalizable with 100% Swarovski crystals, they’re a perfect pick to really dazzle a giftee, says Seema Bansal Chadha, founder of floral company Venus et Fleur, who recommends them especially for new parents. Made with fennel, paprika and red pepper flakes, this smoked pepperoni is a favorite of Angie Rito and Scott Tacinelli, chefs at Don Angie restaurant in New York City, for its "very pronounced smokey, garlicky flavor," Tacinelli says. Know anyone who likes a long shower? They’ll enjoy it even more when they can listen to their favorite tunes or podcasts as they scrub. Plus, it's Bluetooth enabled with a built-in microphone and, of course, fully waterproof.

$35 at CB2

Stocking stuffers get a bad rap for being unnecessary add-ons, but Gates looks for trinkets that are pretty and also serve a purpose, like this sleek, USB-rechargeable lighter. Recipients can use it for their current favorite candle, then leave it out as a decorative object.

$12 at Amazon

If they need a quick fix for that nervous holiday energy, this mini (less than 2- by 2-inches) silicone trinket is the answer, says Patel; it has buttons, a switch, a joystick and various gears to keep hands busy while relieving stress and anxiety. The tactile toy, she points out, can also calm people experiencing sensory overload—you know, from twinkling lights and loud family members.

Plus, notes Patel, the lightweight nylon frame and soft silicone nose pad make them a great workout buddy.

$18 at Kitsch

The holidays have a way of leaving everyone a bit tense, run down and, well, puffy. There might not be time for a facial come Christmas morning, but this plastic and stainless steel roller is the next best thing, says Ordonez. They can pop it in the fridge or freezer, then roll it gently across their face to ease inflammation, tension and soreness. Aside from helping to stimulate blood circulation, she says, "it also feels amazing on the skin, especially on those mornings when you need a wake-up call."

$17 at Amazon

$19 Save $2

Oversize tweezers aren't necessarily the first thing you’d hope to find in your stocking, but Rito and Tacinelli swear by these since they are actually stainless-steel tongs. They reach for them regularly to assemble salads or flip small items in a saute pan, and they bet home cooks will too. "They might seem a little ‘cheffy,’" says Rito, "but they’re actually a very versatile kitchen tool."
